			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Holy Redeemer Students Learn Prom Safety</p>
<p>Students at HolyRedeemer High Schoolparticipated in an awareness program about safe behavior and good decisions during prom and graduation season presented by the law firm of Fellerman &amp; Ciarimboli. The school’s S.A.D.D. club sponsored the presentation and distributed bookmarks with a “SMARTIES” message – Students Making Adult, Responsible, Trustworthy, Intelligent, Ethical and Smart decisions.</p>
<p>The presentation stressed the dangers of drinking and driving during these two important times of a teenager’s life. It urged teens to not drink and drive and to not ride with anyone who is impaired. Students were given the chance to sign a prom pledge promising to make those smart decisions.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Over 30 students atHolyRedeemerHigh Schoolearned recognition for their performance in the National Latin Exam. The exam is taken by students in all 50 states and 13 foreign countries and includes Latin grammar, vocabulary, Roman history and culture.</p>
<p>Cody Januszko ofWilkes-Barreearned a silver medal, maxima cum laude in Latin III, and Donald Stephens, Shavertown, and Tram Le,Wilkes-Barre,  earned a magna cum laude award in Latin II. Michele Fromel, Dallas, and Anneliese Romani, Harding, achieved cum laude in Latin II.</p>
<p>Nine freshmen earned outstanding achievement awards for scoring over 90 percent on the Latin I test. They are Briana Scorey, Wilkes-Barre; Michael Conlon, Inkerman; Conlan McAndrew, Mountaintop; Cameron Gill, Wyoming; Caitlin Croke, Mountaintop; Lindsay Musial, Wilkes-Barre; Robert Dougherty, Shavertown; Olivia Gregorio, Kingston; Emily Schramm, Mountaintop.</p>
<p>The following students received achievement awards: Maria Khoudary, Dallas; Eric Flower, Wilkes-Barre; Jerome Hannon, Wilkes-Barre; Alexis Wylam, Hanover Twp.; Michael Gatusky, Harvey’s Lake; Mary Pat Blaskiewicz, West Pittston; Terrence Vrabec, Bear Creek Twp.; Timothy White, Forty Fort; Gaetano Buonsante, Exeter; Alysa Stone, Moosic; Tyler Scott, Ashley; Lucas Mark, Pittston Twp.; Matthew Lyons, Forty Fort; Vanessa Hannagan, Wilkes-Barre; Arielle Djokoto, Wilkes-Barre; Danielle Marchese, Kingston; Jamie Carty, Harvey’s Lake.</p>
<p>The exam was offered by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. Latin teachers at Holy Redeemer are Christine Kahl and Denise Yanchick.</p>

<p>Mary Claire Materna was a state quarter finalist in radio announcing, placing her among the top 24 students in the state. She also placed first in district competition.</p>
<p>Tyler Floryan and Sarah Cease competed as district champions in dramatic duo interpretation, and Devin Phillips qualified in dramatic interpretation after placing second in districts.</p>
<p>Michael Wolfkiel and Jeff Niemiec are team coaches, assisted by Karley Stasko.</p>
<p>The state championship tournament was sponsored by the Pennsylvania High School Speech League (PHSSL).</p>
